Congratulations, Eric!
Eric began his journey with Sacred Wyld nearly a year and a half ago. In August 2024, he came to full draw on a Pronghorn in Northeast Colorado but felt that it wasn't the right time. So we continued our steps together and prepared to meet in the Texas Hill Country for an Axis Deer hunt.
Eric's intention was to learn how to provide meat for his family and become more adept at navigating the outdoors. This hunt was an opportunity to learn about a new ecosystem and connect with an animal that is not native to the North American continent.
On day 3 of the hunt, we were gifted an encounter with a beautiful Axis buck after tracking his movement and behavior for the previous days. It was a very small window, but we had the support of the elements and Eric was successful for the first harvest of his life.
It was Memorial Day and Eric had been reflecting on his grandfather, William, who was a WWII veteran. As all the pieces came together, the regal nature of the Axis revealed this buck's name as King William. And a king, he was!
As he took his last breaths, the sky opened up, rain poured down in sheets, and lightning danced through the heavens for hours! It was a magnificent moment and breathtaking culmination to Eric's journey!
We processed his meat the following day and are currently taking care of his organs and bones. His hide is being tanned and skull cleaned, so that Eric's relationship with King William will continue for the rest of his life.
