Lyndsie began her mentorship program in June with the intention of becoming an archer and taking her first steps as a hunter. As a first responder and world-class Jiu-Jitzu fighter, the warrior archetype was familiar to Lyndsie, but the journey of her program took her to wildly unknown horizons.
Through her personal meditations, Lyndsie ended up connecting with her late father through the interface of the Royal Yak she was building relationship with. This became a very tender and deep process and we started calling the Yak David, after her father.
Ten people gathered on the Fall Equinox to witness Lyndsie in her and David's transition. There were many encounters with David in the field, but the process had another turn in store. It wasn't quite time and we closed the Equinox event without a harvest.
Five weeks later - over the Samhain threshold - Lyndsie was back in Crestone along with Cherine and Eric, who had the intention of harvesting an elk in the San Luis Valley. As we all gathered, we asked Cherine what her ideal day would look like to begin the elk hunt. She stated that we would wake up in the morning and there would be elk close to camp where we would harvest a bull.
In awe and astonishment the next morning, we were greeted by elk 500 yards from camp and a frigid snow storm! After watching the elk for a few hours, they got up to move and we followed suit, repositioning ourselves to meet them head-on.
Laid out prone on the ground, Cherine watched the heard approach and she made a perfect heart shot on a 6-point bull. As we all gathered around the fallen elk, we noticed his small stature and battle scars, along with a number of broken tines on his antlers. For these reasons, we were reminded of Gimli the dwarf warrior from Lord of the Rings, so that became his name.
Two days later, Lyndsie was ready to meet David again after the Equinox. We gathered in the pasture of Chokurei Ranch and sat in meditation around the fire. Lyndsie's initial intention had morphed through her mentorship program to include giving her "dad" a transition where he was supported, honored, and not alone - all the things he didn't have when he passed many years ago.
The time came and we all drove out to a watering hole. Like it was a pre-arranged meeting, David and a few other Yak joined us there. After a short dance, Lyndsie made two shots with her arrow and David fell.
The five of us gathered around his body as he took his last breaths, and we all witnessed one of the most stunning and gentle transitions in Sacred Wyld history.
Lyndsie and Cherine's intentions were manifested so beautifully. The week was a breathtaking lesson in the power of intention and the gentle hand of the feminine. We will be basking in the grace of this harvest for a long time.
With an intention to create family and become a proficient archer, Matthew embarked on a four-month journey as a participant in our Hunting Mentorship Program.
On the Spring Equinox, Matthew chose a bull from the herd at Chokurei Ranch to develop a relationship with. He chose to name the bull Matthew in order to explore the relevant parts of himself that were undergoing transition, transformation, death and rebirth.
After many deep-dive conversations and countless arrows shot at the range and in the practice blind, seven people gathered at the the Summer Solstice to honor Matthew's commitment and rite of passage. There was a common thread among all who gathered, each investigating the role of parenthood in their life and how to best support the next generation.
Facing himself, Matthew entered the herd and was granted access to two clean shots at Matthew the bull. The entire herd swirled with the most electric energy as they acknowledged Matthew's passing, bowing to their fallen brother.
We sat in deep contemplation and conversation for the following two days, enjoying a cacao ceremony and sharing our reflections from the harvest.
Matthew's meat was shared with the Boulder community after dry-aging to celebrate both Matthews and their epic journey.
